Discipline Breeds Discipline
I recently heard someone say that you rarely hear an inarticulate athlete.Granted it's not hard to hear the obvious during the pre game interview: "We practiced real hard, we're just gonna go out there and give it our best tonight." Or "We feel we're in a good spot right now, we're just gonna push our offense real hard". Or my personal favorite, "We're just gonna go out there, try to get a win and see what happens." Well I would certainly hope so you're trying to get a win. :)But think about it, as simple as some may sound you really do rarely hear an athlete that has sloppy, slurring or lazy language. It's because their physical exercise, training and tone carries over into their speech. Crazy? Maybe, but it's how our bodies and psyche are wired. So hold that thought. This spring I started cycling as a hobby, I'm not that fast or good but it really is a lot of fun. And getting out and physically pushing my body consistently was way overdue. Crazy thing about it is the weeks when I rode a lot I felt like I had more energy and a more positive outlook on life in general. Then I'd get lazy or feel I'm too 'busy' to exercise for a couple days or weeks straight and I guarantee it was harder to get of bed in the morning and I just wouldn't feel that good about myself. When I was disciplined physically I was much more apt to be disciplined mentally and spiritually as well.Is there really something to this? If there is we need to start with one or two small areas and be very disciplined on those, allowing that particular area of super-discipline to snowball into the other areas of our lives that are lacking. What's one small area that you're going to start being super-disciplined in?
