Let’s clarify ‘status quo’ because we hear about it a lot and it’s important to understand the meaning. ‘Status quo’ is a Latin term meaning the “current or existing state of affairs”. ‘Status quo’ is derived from ‘statu quo’, literally meaning “the state in which”. To maintain the status quo is to keep things the way they presently are.

President Lincoln was not afraid to challenge the status quo.

President Lincoln was just as concerned with his inward character as he was his outward appearance.

President Lincoln listened to his advisors but made his own decisions, even when it was unpopular to do so or contradictory to public opinion.

President Lincoln abolished slavery.

President Lincoln was willing and able to articulate the reasoning behind his decisions.

President Lincoln had a hunger to learn. He was willing to invest time and effort to improve his knowledge & understanding for the good of the people.

President Lincoln was not perfect and did not pretend to be so.
